Direct File will be fully available in Massachusetts on March 12th. If you look at it and are able to start a tax return, you can save what you start and go back later to go through the whole process when you have time and your papers or other information at hand.

This year, Direct File covers most kinds of income that low income people have. There is information at the beginning about this. By answering some questions online, it will tell you whether you are eligible to use it. If eligible, you decide whether to use it.

Because Direct File is not available in most states this year, it is called a “pilot.”
